It’s officially February, and love is in the air. Or, at the very least, it’s all over the Hallmark cards at your local pharmacy. Valentine’s Day is a great excuse for hopeless romantics to curl up and stream something that tugs at the tear ducts. But even if you’re not feeling very “rom-com,” there are other ways to celebrate the Season of Love—from classic Galantine’s Day flicks to vindicating post-break-up movies.
Whether you’re feeling the love this season—or decidedly not—there’s something for every mood here on TiVo. Here’s what we have on tap this month:
Classic Love Stories
- Ghost
If you think long-distance relationships are painful, just imagine your boyfriend being a ghost. In this classic 90’s romantic thriller starring Demi Moore and the late Patrick Swayze, the love between Molly Jenson and Sam Wheat is cut short when Sam is murdered by his corrupt business partner. Doomed to roam the planet as a spirit, Sam seeks help from a psychic to protect his one true love.
- The Fault in Our Stars
This teen romance based on the novel by YA author John Greene, is a classic in the making—but it’s also bittersweet. Protagonists Hazel Grace Lancaster and Gus Waters fall in love in an unlikely place: their cancer support group. To make the most of their short lives, the two set off on an adventure to meet Hazel’s favorite author, a hermit named Peter van Houten.
- The Way We Were
Directed by Sydney Pollack from Arthur Laurents’ adaptation of his novel, is a traumatized, painful movie about a woman (Barbra Streisand) born with an unwavering sense of justice who ultimately frees herself from a harrowing love affair/marriage with a man who should be her natural enemy, a Fitzgerald-like hero, played with icy, dangerous charm by Robert Redford.
- Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind
If you want a love story that skews sci-fi, this movie from 2004 follows Clementine, played by Kate Winslet, and Joel, played by Jim Carrey, after a breakup. But this isn’t any ordinary breakup. Clementine chooses to undergo a procedure to erase Joel from her memory. Will Joel follow her into the abyss of lost memories?

Galantine’s Day Romps
- Pitch Perfect
Prefer to celebrate with your besties this Galantine’s Day? This musical comedy starring Anna Kendrick, Rebel Wilson, Brittany Snow, and other favorites follows an all-female a cappella group as they take on their male rivals. Hilarity ensues.
- A League of Their Own
In this inspirational flick, a professional women’s baseball team springs up in the Midwest after World War II. The stars (Geena Davis and Lori Petty) are two sisters who join the team on its path to success—while navigating their own rivalry.
- Bend It Like Beckham
If you’re hungry for more female sports classics, there’s no better movie than Bend It Like Beckham. In this film, soccer-loving Jess Bhamra is forbidden to play sports by her strict Indian parents. But during a casual match with friends, she is scouted by a young coach and finds herself hiding her burgeoning sports career from her family.
- Beaches
Romantic love may be fleeting, but friendship is forever. At least, that’s the message in Beaches, the 1988 classic movie starring Barbara Hershey and Bette Midler, who nurture a lifelong friendship through ups and downs from childhood into middle age.

Novak writes a bestselling book on the downside of love, shocking many men—including fellow writer Catcher Block, who tries to make Novak fall in love with him to prove she’s a fraud.
- War of the Roses
Nothing says “Happy Valentine’s Day” like a bitter divorce story. This dark comedy, starring Kathleen Turner and Michael Douglas, is about a couple who can’t stand each other—but neither is willing to give up their beautiful house.
- Kill Bill: Vol. 1
Think your love life stinks? At least your husband didn’t try to murder you on your wedding day. In Kill Bill: Vol. 1, a former assassin known as “The Bride” wakes up after a four-year coma with one goal in mind: seeking revenge on Bill, her jealous ex-fiancé, and anyone else who stands in her way.
- The Break-Up
This 2006 movie, about ex-lovers who become hostile roommates, may hit close to home for those who went through a quarantine breakup. The film stars Vince Vaughn and Jennifer Aniston, two rom-com favorites who never disappoint.
