TiVo Remote Makes Winning Cameo at Cub Scout Pinewood Derby Races
Because customer satisfaction is at the heart of our inventions and innovations, we think it’s fitting to highlight a letter submitted by a family whose youngest member found winning inspiration in an unlikely object: his TiVo remote control. Enjoy!
Wanted to drop a note of thanks. My oldest son (age 7) is in Cub Scouts and last weekend we had our Troop’s Pinewood Derby races. We started to prepare about two months ago and my youngest son (almost 4) wanted to participate as well. He was looking for ideas to design his car and found design motivation from TiVo! We had the stock block of wood sitting on the kitchen counter while we discussed design ideas. It just so happened that one of our TiVo remotes was nearby. He LOVES our TiVos! He quickly grabbed the remote and placed it next to the block of wood. Comparing them, he noticing they were similar in size and shape. The gears started turning and he then asked with great excitement and enthusiasm, could we carve his race car as a TiVo remote?
To make a long story short, he carved and sanded his block of wood to model the TiVo remote sitting on the counter that night and then painted it, with some help on the details. Yes, he really did carve it out of wood himself. On race day, his motivation and hard work yielded a speed win in fourth place, winning a certificate in his category, and a first place Best in Show trophy for the family open, which is voted on by all of the troop scouts. This was his first trophy and he was SUPER exited to have won it. He loves to show off his hard work. With that said, I write you to share a personal thanks to TiVo for the design motivation.
Proud father of a very happy little boy who won his very first trophy
Way to go! Congrats from TiVo Guy and your friends at TiVo.
