"With the debut of the 2008 TV season, I noticed the local cable company (TWC) had greatly degraded all of the hdtv feeds. What used to be a pretty nice picture suddenly developed large blocky artifacts all over. The local advertising kept pointing out how many new channels the company now carried in HD. The only way they could do this was to re-compress the mpeg2 HD signal to a lower bit rate. I canceled cable and installed an antenna. OTA signals are pristine."
