TiVo Top Moments: 2016 World Series

Wednesday, November 2, 2016 marked a brand new day for long-suffering Chicago Cubs fans. It took 108 years and 10 excruciating innings, but at the end of it all, the Cubs defeated the Cleveland Indians in game seven of the World Series with a score of 8-7.

The match-up was a true nail-biter, and there were many highlights throughout the series, but we can tell you which moments seemed to have the biggest impact on TiVo subscribers – those times when they most frequently hit the rewind, pause and replay buttons. 2 7 12:47 AM The Cubs Mike Montgomery gets Martinez to ground out third with Davis on first, ending the Cubs’ 108-year World Series drought.
3 6 10:55 PM The Cubs bring in Chapman to pitch to Lindor, who grounds a ball to first and with Chapman covering he is ruled safe, but after a review is called out to end the inning. Cubs 7 – Indians 2.
4 6 8:18 PM In the top of the first with the Cubs leading 1-0 on a Bryant home run, Russell comes to the plate with two on and two outs and hits ball that drops in between two Cleveland outfielders. Cubs lead 3-0.
5 5 8:56 PM The Cubs Dexter Fowler climbed the right field wall in foul territory to make an acrobatic catch of a Trevor Bauer hit. Even Bauer had to applaud the effort.
6 4 9:26 PM Down 3-1 in the bottom of the third, the Cubs threaten with two on and two outs, but Zobrist strikes out swinging.
7 7 9:58 PM With the Cubs leading 5-1 in the bottom of the fifth, Jon Lester, on in relief, throws a wild pitch scoring Kipnis and Santana for the Indians. Cubs 5 – Indians 3.
8 5 10:44 PM With two on and two outs in the top of the seventh, the Cubs closer Chapman induces Perez to ground out to second base. The Cubs cling to a 3-2 lead.
9 5 10:00 PM Kris Bryant of the Cubs steals second and advances to third on a throwing error by the Indians catcher Roberto Perez.
10 1 10:43 PM With the bases loaded for the Cubs down 3-0 and Andrew Miller pitching in relief of Corey Kluber for the Indians, David Ross strikes out swinging to end the inning.

TiVo 2016 World Series analysis was prepared using aggregated, anonymous, second-by-second audience measurement data from approximately 30,000 anonymous households out of a daily sample of 350,000 subscribers to the Emmy® Award-winning TiVo service. TiVo Research gauges the interest in programming content by measuring the percentage of the TiVo audience watching in “play” speed. The most engaging moments are determined by looking for program content with the biggest bump in viewership relative to the surrounding 15 minutes of programming, offering a true reflection of change in viewership.
