FCC Chairman Wheeler Announces Intention to Begin a Game-Changing FCC Process

In a blog post today, Federal Communications Commission Chairman Tom Wheeler announced his intention to begin a process at the FCC that could unleash competition and innovation in set top devices.

In response to the announcement, Matthew Zinn, SVP and General Counsel of TiVo released the following statement:

“We applaud Chairman Tom Wheeler for pursuing a process to implement a successor to the current CableCARD standard. Enabling consumers to purchase competitive retail devices to receive their cable programming will provide choice, unleash innovation, and lower costs.  More capable user interfaces allowing consumers to move seamlessly between traditional television channels and new streaming services will benefit consumers as well as the television ecosystem (including cable operators) by increasing satisfaction with the pay TV bundle as well as expanding opportunities for minority and independent voices.”
