Mystery Girls: Old Friends Together Again

As a woman of a particular age, I watched the original “Beverly Hills, 90210” from start to finish. So when I heard that Kelly Taylor (Jennie Garth) and Donna Martin (Tori Spelling) were in a new series together, my TiVo was tasked with recording one more new show. ABC Family’s “Mystery Girls” reteams Garth and Spelling as former TV show detectives turned real-life detectives, and I love this idea. It was with this thought I started to put together a list of former costars I would like to see reunited in new shows.

First on my list are Amanda (Becki Newton) and Marc (Michael Urie) from “Ugly Betty.” As that show wrapped up I was positive these two were going to get a spin-off. I pictured a move from New York to LA, and a rise in the fashion world from assistants to tastemakers. These two made a perfectly snarky but lovable twosome on “Ugly Betty,” and they would be the perfect pair to star in a new series.

Next on my list are Penelope ‘Punky’ Brewster (Soleil Moon Frye) and her best friend Cherie (Cherie Johnson). Basically I just really loved “Punky Brewster” growing up, and I would like to see Soleil Moon Frye in something new (if for no other reason, so I have cause to say the name Soleil Moon Frye).

Finally, I would like to see Claudia Salinger (Lacey Chabert) and Sarah Reeves (Jennifer Love Hewitt) from “Party of Five” reteamed in a new show. Both of their characters were kind of annoying in “Party of Five,” but since then both actresses have played interesting, off-color roles that have been fun to watch—Chabert as Gretchen Wieners in “Mean Girls” and Hewitt as Page Conners in “Heartbreakers.”

That’s as far as I got on my list, but post your suggestions below or by using #TiVoTogetherAgain on which former costars you think should be reunited in new projects.
