TV This Week – 8-20
August ends with a week of premieres and finales, as summer shows end and major fall shows begin. Here are the four top picks to check out this week.
“The Inbetweeners” (Series Premiere) – MTV – 10:30PM EST
From the creators of the original British series comes an American adaptation of “The Inbetweeners” developed by one of the head writers of “Arrested Development.” It seems that the show will stay true to the original, but could also become the male version of the HBO show “Girls.” The UK version was known for its raunchy content and pushing the envelope on illicit subjects, but because it is in a 10PM timeslot, this show might be a great surprise.
“VH1 Do Something Awards” (Special) – VH1 – 9PM EST
The Do Something Awards is a unique awards show honoring some of the best charities and young individuals in the nation, hosted this year by the funny men of New Girl. Presenters this year include Will Ferrell, The Newsroom’s Olivia Munn, Kristin Bell, John Cho and Harry Shum Jr.
“Futurama” (New) – Comedy Central – 10PM EST
We’re so excited for this new episode mostly because it’s influenced off of Steve Soderbergh’s “Oceans Eleven.” Fry and the gang have to steal artifacts for the Robot Underground, and with golden era “Simpsons” writer Josh Weinstein penning this episode, it’s sure to be hilarious!
“Suits” (Season Finale) – USA Network – 10PM EST
The surprise hit of the summer has approached its finale. If you never started this show, make sure you TiVo the past 5 episodes from 6AM to 11AM on Thursday to catch up. We don’t want to include any spoiler but we will say the show is making a dramatic transition with its characters and all the stakes are based on one decision that will be exposed in the season finale. We’re sad to say bye to the show for now but can’t wait for season 3 to be even bigger and badder.
