TiVo Olympic Coverage – Top Moments – August 10, 2012   by

On your mark, set, go! It was a fast and furious night at the Olympic stadium in London as a 27-year world record was smashed by Team USA in the women’s 4x100m relay. Carmelita Jeter anchored the USA’s final leg, securing gold in world record pace of 40.82s and nailing the Top Moment of the evening in an event where the gold medal had eluded the Americans since 1996.

Not every Top Moment was happy for Team USA: Morgan Uceny broke down uncontrollably on the track as she tripped and fell for a second time in women’s 1500m (the previous fall was in the 2011 world championships at the same event); Team USA was also upset by the Bahamas, who snatched a gold medal in the men’s 4x400m relay – a race that  also featured a gutsy and inspiring run by the Blade Runner, Oscar Pistorius of South Africa.

Track and field competition also provided the final two TiVo Top Moments: The #4 slot went toTeam USA’s men’s 4x100m relay team setting a new national record (37.38s), beating a previous record that had been untouched  for 20 years and qualifying for the finals.  The #5 Top Moment was  Defar Meseret of Ethiopia clinching gold in the women’s 5000m final, with teammate  Tirunesh Dibaba claiming the bronze.
