Tonight on CBS, new episodes of How I Met Your Mother and The Big Bang Theory. On How I Met Your Mother, Lily wants to get a gun after Marshall is mugged, which motivates Marshall to come up with a complicated variation on the incident to keep her from following through on the purchase. On The Big Bang Theory, Sheldon again faces off with his wily nemesis –former “Star Trek: The Next Generation” star Wil Wheaton — this time in a bowling alley.

30 for 30:  As part of its 30th anniversary celebration, ESPN looks back at notable sports happenings that occurred from 1979 to 2009 with this documentary series featuring 30 films from some of Hollywood’s finest directors and producers. In this week’s, “No Crossover: The Trial of Allen Iverson,” director Steve James examines the 1993 incident that sent high school basketball star Allen Iverson to jail.

Modern Family: If you haven’t yet seen Modern Family, it isn’t too late to set your season pass to record this ABC comedy. Told from the perspective of an unseen documentary filmmaker, the series offers an honest and often hilarious peerspective of family life. In this Wednesday’s new episode Luke and Manny’s hot-tempered basketball coach quits during a game, causing Jay and Phil to jockey to fill the position.

Be aware, there are cliff-hanger season finales approaching. A few of this week’s season finales include Life Unexpected, Melrose Place and The Millionaire Matchmaker.
